Wedding Hair Trend: Vintage Hollywood
We love wedding hair because there are so many different options. Up, down, half-up-half-down, curly, straight, waves – literally endless possibilities. We also love that trends move through the ages. Our favourite right now: classic vintage Hollywood!
We love Hollywood curls. Mostly because they are timeless, and there are a ton of ways to style them. Pulling one side tightly and pinning it is the traditional look (which we adore), but there are definitely other options! Pin your hair back loosely, pin it half up, pin the bangs back, or don’t pin at all!
The greatest thing about this look is it gives a classic, elegant vibe. It adds a flair of casual sophistication to your look. You can also customize it to your gown. If your gown has an intricate back, you want to be able to show it off! Move your hair to one side! If you find your back not too exciting, you are able to leave your hair to the back.
There are a couple of ways to create this look. First, you are going to need A LOT of hairspray, so be prepared for that. You will want to use a 1-inch or a 1.25-inch curling iron to create these curls. You will want to split your hair into two parts – top and bottom. Start with the bottom! Holding the iron horizontally, curl a 1-2 inch piece of hair. You will want to have some clips handy. Curl clips work best, but bobby-pins are fine. Once you curl a piece of hair, coil the curl into the ring and pin it near the root. This way, your curl will cool and set. Once you’re done all of the bottom, take out the pins.
The top half is where it gets a little trickier, mostly because it matters a little more which way the curls go. You want the curls to go AWAY from you face, so take horizontal pieces of hair, and make sure you curl going away from your face. Repeat with curl/bobby pins as you did on the bottom half of your hair. Once your hair has cooled, release the curls and brush it out with a bristle brush!
We got this particular version of the tutorial here: http://www.more.com/beauty/hair/celebrity-hairstyles/old-hollywood-curls-glamorous-hairstyle-holidays. However, there are tons of different ones using different ways of curling! So check more out, and let us know which is your favourite!
