How to: Make-up That Lasts All Day

Alright ladies…. There is nothing worse than painstakingly applying your makeup to perfection just to find it has rubbed off mere hours into your day, evening, or event. Now don’t fret, there are a few simple steps you can take to help preserve that hard work!

First… Primer! I can admit it. I wasn’t always a strong believer in primer. I thought it was an extra unnecessary step that didn’t do much for my skin. I have been converted. Once I got over the price tag of adding a product with no colour or coverage into my makeup routine and decided to try it for a month, I can honestly say it is the one thing that has drastically improved the staying power of my makeup. It is a definite must. (My recommendations… Smash box Photo Finish and Porefessional by Benefit).

Second…Use a foundation that is made for your skin type. If you are oily and find your makeup slips and slides throughout the day, then be sure to choose a foundation that is on the matte side and does not contain oil. Dewey products are not your BFF. On the flip side, if your skin is dry, don’t choose a matte finish as it will only highlight those dry flakey spots! (My recommendations…. Smashbox Studio Skin for oily skin and NARS Sheer Glow for dry skin).

Third… Setting Powder. Unfortunately, this is not always the most desirable step for us dry skinned babes; however, it is necessary if you want to keep that makeup from moving. Liquid products have a tendency to settle in fine lines and expression wrinkles so setting it by brushing a light dusting of powder (translucent or pigmented) will really help to reduce that. If your skin is dry, try to keep the powder to those areas of the face that typically move (i.e. under the eyes, forehead, and around the mouth). If you are oily, focus primarily on the “T” zone. (My recommendation…. Anything. I don’t think you need to get brand specific here).

Finally… Setting Spray. This may not be a step to take for everyday wear (though I personally love that misty feeling in the morning) but it is a big help for events or parties… especially if you will be dancing and working up a sweat. Once your makeup is complete, simply spray a few pumps onto your face and let dry. (My recommendations…. Urban Decay Chill Setting Spray and Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray).

I hope this helps you all to keep your faces fabulous all day (or night) long!
